A heroic firefighter climbs 20 feet down into an icy pond to rescue a frightened husky! 🥹❤️
A dramatic animal rescue unfolded in Muskegon, Michigan, when a white husky fell approximately 20 feet onto ice at the bottom of an old filtration pond, leaving her trapped between towering concrete walls with no way to escape.
After receiving multiple calls about the distressed dog, local animal shelter Pound Buddies contacted emergency responders for help.
Footage captured by Alicia Rios, an animal care specialist at Pound Buddies, shows the frightened husky barking from the bottom of the pond as rescuers prepare to bring her to safety.
Lieutenant John Kriger of the Muskegon Heights Fire Department carefully climbed down a ladder into the pond to reach the nervous dog.
Knowing the husky was frightened, the firefighter patiently offered her a treat, hoping to gain her trust and encourage her to approach. After some gentle encouragement, the dog finally came close enough for him to grab her.
The firefighter then safely carried the husky out of the icy pond, bringing the terrifying ordeal to a happy ending.
Pound Buddies later praised the firefighters for their quick response, explaining that the crew arrived, developed a rescue plan, secured their equipment, and saved the dog within minutes.
The Muskegon Heights Fire Department also expressed its happiness at being able to reunite the rescued husky with her owner.
