A group of kind fishermen gave a struggling sea turtle a second chance at life after discovering her tangled in ropes and fishing nets off the coast of Costa Rica! 🥹❤️
While out at sea, fishermen from 4Corners Costa Rica fishing expeditions encountered a sea turtle swimming toward their boat with blue ropes tightly tangled around her neck and front flippers.
Realizing the turtle was in serious trouble, the fishermen carefully lifted her out of the water and brought her aboard their boat.
Footage captured by Charles Hill shows the rescuers working to remove the ropes and netting that had become wrapped around the turtle's body, restricting her movement.
According to Hill, the fishermen believed the turtle may have been trapped in the ropes for weeks or even months. The turtle also appeared to have growths on her flippers and neck that resembled fibropapillomatosis tumors.
After carefully cutting away the tangled material, the fishermen safely released the turtle back into the ocean.
In a particularly heartwarming moment, Hill said the turtle resurfaced after being released, appearing to thank her rescuers before swimming away strongly.
But their efforts didn't end there! The fishermen also removed more than 300 feet of discarded ropes and nets from the ocean that same day, helping protect other marine animals from becoming entangled.
An incredible reminder that a simple act of compassion can make a life-changing difference for animals in need! ❤️
