WorldSkills Shanghai tests global talent with China-built rail systems, C909 aircraft models

At this year's WorldSkills Competition, global technicians are racing against the clock using Chinese technical standards and Chinese-made equipment for the very first time. Competitors, including He Xiaoman, the Rail Vehicle Technology's only female participant, are being tested inside 1:1 replicas of subway cars built entirely to Chinese maintenance standards.

This follows China's expansion to over 11,000 kilometers of urban rail lines, the largest network globally.

For the first time in WorldSkills history, the Aircraft Maintenance event is using platforms modeled after a domestic Chinese jet, the C909 passenger aircraft. To reduce contestant stress, China has introduced AI-assisted referees using smart helmets, cameras and image recognition.

This year’s "Skills Olympics", running from September 22 to 27, brings together hundreds of the world’s brightest young technical minds from around 60 countries and regions to Shanghai.
