What China's most advanced aircraft carrier Fujian has achieved in its first year in service

China’s newest and most advanced aircraft carrier has just marked its first year in service.

Commissioned at Sanya on 5 November 2025, the Fujian (Type 003) is China’s third carrier and the largest warship ever built in the country, displacing 80,000–85,000 tonnes and stretching some 316 metres in length. Its standout feature: three electromagnetic catapults (EMALS) — a capability once associated only with nuclear-powered carriers like the US Ford class.

With an air wing expected to include the J-35 stealth fighter, the J-15T heavy fighter, and the KJ-600 carrier-based AEW&C aircraft — 50 to 70 aircraft in all — the Fujian is pushing China’s naval aviation into a new era.
