오늘날 비엔날레는 단순한 국제 미술 제도를 넘어, 동시대의 첨예한 미학적·사회적 담론이 충돌하고 교류하는 역동적인 플랫폼으로 기능합니다. 본 세션은 한국의 비엔날레를 중심으로, 세계 전역에서 활약해 온 큐레이터들과 함께 현대 비엔날레가 직면한 큐레이팅의 실질적·이론적 과제들을 심층적으로 짚어봅니다.
다양한 글로벌 비엔날레의 현장 경험을 바탕으로, 각 문화권의 지리적·문화적 특성이 전시에 어떻게 투영되는지 비교 분석합니다. 나아가 한국의 비엔날레가 가진 독자적인 위치를 성찰하고, 급변하는 글로벌 미술 지형 속에서 미래의 비엔날레가 어떤 형태로 진화하고 확장될지 그 방향성을 다각도로 예측해 보고자 합니다.
세계 미술 현장의 최전선에 있는 큐레이터들의 생생한 시각을 통해, 비엔날레의 대안적 모델과 동시대 미술이 나아갈 미래적 비전을 공유하는 자리가 될 것입니다.

Today, biennales function as more than mere international art institutions. They are dynamic platforms where the sharpest contemporary aesthetic and social discourses collide and interact. Centered on Korean biennales and joined by curators active around the world, this session takes an in-depth look at the substantive and theoretical challenges facing curatorial practice in contemporary biennales.
Drawing on field experience from a range of global biennales, this session compares how the geographic and cultural specificities of each region are reflected in exhibitions, reflects on the distinctive position held by Korean biennales, and looks, from multiple angles, at how biennales will evolve and expand within the rapidly shifting global art landscape.
Through the firsthand perspectives of curators at the forefront of the global art world, this will be an occasion to share alternative models for biennales and a vision for where contemporary art is headed.
