기술은 앞만 보고 달립니다. 우리도 함께 달려왔습니다. 이 페스티벌은 잠시 멈춰 서기를 권합니다. 멈춰 서서 묻습니다. 인간은 무엇인가. 나는 기술과 어떤 사이인가.

1964년 백남준은 최초의 예술 로봇 K-456을 만들었습니다. 전파로 움직이며 걷다가 넘어지던 로봇입니다. 그 옆에 오늘의 기계들이 섭니다. 말을 걸면 대답하는 로봇 설치 작품, 관람객의 숨결에 따라 움직이는 원형 스크린, 몸을 가진 채 스스로 움직이는 피지컬 AI 신작들입니다. 예순 해가 넘는 세월의 거리를 두고 두 세대의 기계가 마주 봅니다.

테크네세(Technecene)는 기술(techne)이 세계를 만드는 가장 큰 힘이 된 시대(世, cene)를 가리키는 말로, ACT 페스티벌 2026이 제안하는 신조어입니다. 인간이 땅과 기후를 바꾼 시대를 인류세(Anthropocene)라 부른다면, 지금은 기술이 우리의 감각과 판단, 관계의 모양까지 바꾸는 시대, 테크네세(世)입니다. ACC에서 이 시대를 직접 마주해 보시기 바랍니다.

🔔ACT Festival 2026 "I, Human: Responding to the Technecene" D-2

Technology runs forward, looking only ahead. We have been running alongside it. This festival invites you to pause. To stand still and ask: What is a human being? What is technology to me—and what am I to it?

In 1964, Nam June Paik built K-456, the first robot ever made as art. Driven by radio signals, it walked, and it fell. Beside it now stand the machines of today: a robotic installation that answers when you speak to it, a circular screen that moves with a visitor’s breath, new works of physical AI that move on their own in bodies of their own. Across a distance of more than sixty years, two generations of machines face each other.

The Technecene is a term coined by ACT Festival 2026 to name an epoch (cene) in which technology (techne) has become the greatest force shaping the world. If the Anthropocene is the epoch in which humans changed the land and the climate, then ours is the age in which technology changes the very shape of our senses, our judgment, and our relationships: the Technecene.
