We Don’t Miss What Matters, We Decide What Doesn’t. | Sharif Gray | TEDxColumbiana

Someone you love is going to say something that matters—and you're going to hear it and move on. We all do. We live fast, we triage, we tell ourselves we'll come back to it later. A trial lawyer shares two stories that shaped how he sees that moment: a 13-year-old boy a jury valued at $20 million, and a client whose quiet "I'm fine" he still thinks about years later. The lesson lands the same in every room—courtroom, kitchen, conference table. We don't miss what matters. We decide it doesn't. I’ve learned that if you want real justice for your clients, you can’t default to the easy path.
You take the big swings. You commit. You believe.
That mindset has defined my career.

I tried cases as a U.S. Army JAG Officer, as a Drug and Vice Prosecutor, and now as a partner at Gray Broughton Injury Law.

There is nothing more professionally exciting to me than preparing for trial, and nothing more meaningful than standing up for people who put their trust in me.

Sharif graduated valedictorian from the Virginia Military Institute, received his law degree from the University of Virginia, earned his Masters of Law degree in Trial Advocacy from the Temple University Beasley School of Law, and graduated from the Gerry Spence Method—the premier training for trial lawyers who represent people.

Outside of work, you’ll find Sharif with his wife and two sons, grabbing dinner with friends, playing “competitive” kickball, or getting in a workout. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
