Sony’s out here trying to convince the legal system that only stupid, uniformed people think they own their video games. Too bad for them that fact-checking exists.
The Playstation people’s argument is that rational, reasonable buyers know they’re licensing what they spend money on, not actually OWN the games.
But their own marketing constantly claims that people actually do own their games.
The Consumer Rights Wiki has a section dedicated to the evidence of the dozens of times Sony has told gamers that they own things.
Statements such as “"If you already own the PS4® version, you do not need to buy the PS5® version of this game." - which is unfortunately not the case with Bloodborne, and so we actually have a full video showing the nightmare that is getting that decade old game running on the PC since Sony’s abandoned it.
The legal argument is that quote “reasonable consumers would not be misled” so it seems like they think anyone who falls for their marketing isn’t a healthy buyer. We’ll see how the hearing plays out at the beginning of October.
