百餘年顯示產業不斷迭代，液晶、OLED、Mini LED 持續進步，但全部依賴實體螢幕承載畫面；市面上常見的裸眼 3D、全息投影，也需要玻璃、幕布等介質。自由空間體積顯示技術，透過雷射操控微粒或是激發空氣介質，產生具備三維座標的體素，高速掃描形成懸浮於空氣中的立體影像。不同於 VR 頭顯將小型螢幕貼近眼部，影像可直接存在現實空間，未來可望應用在會議、醫療、工業設計、居家娛樂，甚至重新定義手機、電視等電子產品形態。影片客觀說明該技術目前僅停留在實驗室，面臨龐大運算負荷、功耗散熱、安全、成本量產等諸多工程難關，不一定能夠成功商業化，但它提出一個顛覆性命題：顯示是否非要有螢幕不可，打開數位資訊與真實空間融合的全新方向。

For more than a century, display‑industry iterations including LCD, OLED and Mini‑LED all rely on physical screens. Common naked‑eye‑3D and so‑called holographic projections also require media such as glass or curtains. Free‑space volumetric‑display technology uses lasers to manipulate particles or excite air‑medium, generating 3D‑coordinate voxels. High‑speed scanning forms three‑dimensional images suspended in mid‑air. Unlike VR headsets which place tiny screens close to eyes, images exist directly in physical real‑world space. Potential future applications cover meetings, medical‑treatment, industrial‑design and home‑entertainment, and may redefine forms of phones and TVs. This video objectively notes that the technology stays in lab‑prototype phase, facing huge computing load, power‑dissipation, safety, cost and mass‑production engineering obstacles. Commercial success is not guaranteed. Nevertheless it raises a disruptive question: Must displays require screens? It opens new directions for integration of digital‑information and physical‑space.
