X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) slipped a joke about third movies into its own movie theater scene, and it still makes me laugh. ๐Ÿ˜ญ A conversation about Star Wars suddenly sounds very personal when Jean Grey declares that the third movie is always the worst.

Within the scene, theyโ€™re discussing Return of the Jedi. For anyone familiar with X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), that line lands as a pretty obvious wink at the franchiseโ€™s own third installment. The fact that Apocalypse is also the third film in the younger castโ€™s trilogy gives the joke another funny layer.

I love these moments where the characters keep having a normal conversation while the audience gets a completely different reason to laugh. Nobody needs to turn toward the camera. That one sentence does enough.

The superhero action can wait a second. Apparently, we have movie rankings to settle first.
