저는 버려진 종이로 종이 죽을 만들어 작업해요.
그런데 종이 죽도 쓰다 보면 항상 조금씩 남아요.

보통 미술 재료는
사용하고 남으면 버려지기 쉽죠.
하지만 저는 그걸 그냥 두지 않고,
다시 넓게 펴 발라 새로운 종이로 만듭니다.

이 과정을 반복하다 보면
하나의 종이가
3번, 많게는 4번 이상 다시 쓰이게 되죠.

이렇게 손을 거치며 계속 다른 모습으로 남는 과정이
제가 생각하는 업사이클링,
혹은 리사이클링이 아닐까 싶습니다.

I work with paper pulp made from discarded paper.
But when I’m working, there’s always a little pulp left over.

Most art materials
are easily thrown away once they’re used.
Instead of discarding it,
I spread the leftover pulp out wide
and turn it into new paper.

As this process repeats,
a single sheet of paper
ends up being used three,
sometimes even four times.

This ongoing transformation,
where the paper keeps taking on new forms by hand,
feels like what upcycling—
or recycling—means to me.
