For a long time, headphones have been the only solution for private audio‑listening. However, wearing headphones causes ear discomfort, power failure and isolation from the real‑world environment.
Ultrasonic directional beam technology uses inaudible ultrasonic waves to carry audio signals. Sound travels like a light beam. Only people within the beam can hear it, while others remain undisturbed.
Chinese supply chains have miniaturized and cost‑reduced formerly bulky military prototypes. The technology will soon be applied in laptops and electric vehicles, shaking the traditional headphone industry.
This marks a shift toward ambient intelligence for human‑computer interaction, freeing users from wearable hardware. Still, physical limitations such as signal interruption caused by body movement or obstacles remain to be improved.
