Vice Premier slams 'China squeeze' claims as 4,100+ foreign firms gather at CIIE to tap China market

Global executives from Germany, the US and Moldova warm up at the Thursday-opened 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) to strengthen their long-term commitment to the Chinese market. First-time participants welcomed the expo as an excellent opportunity to secure new contracts.

At the opening ceremony, Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang rejected claims that China is “squeezing out” other economies. He stated that China does not deliberately chase a trade surplus, noting that its current account surplus as a share of GDP fell to 3.7% in 2025, “a range that is widely seen as reasonable”.

The 9th CIIE opened in Shanghai on Thursday, gathering more than 4,100 foreign companies from 162 countries.
