Audi's unveils new Shanghai innovation center during CIIE to develop China-focused smart tech

Audi has opened its Audi Innovation&Technology Center in Shanghai, its first global research facility outside Europe. Launched during the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE), the new Shanghai-based joint venture, dedicated to the four-letter, all-caps AUDI brand, will develop next-generation driver-assistance systems and AI-powered immersive smart cockpits. The center will work closely with the local Chinese supply chain.

Other suppliers also displayed practical, mass-production-ready tech at the CIIE expo. German company Webasto debuted an ultra-thin panoramic sunroof with a hidden sunshade built between two layers of glass, which adds extra headroom while keeping the car cool.

So far, more than 480 products have been confirmed for their global, Asian or China debut at the expo, setting a new record.
