Saudi Arabia appears to have fired its first ballistic missile at the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
According to the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, Yemeni officials and weapons specialists said debris of a Chinese-made ballistic missile was found, fired by Saudi Arabia.
It marks the first time a ballistic missile was used in the combat against the Houthis.
A research fellow from a London-based think tank told the Wall Street Journal that it is a strategic action taken by Saudi Arabia to retain the balance in the context of the Houthis' continued threat and use of missiles against Saudi Arabia on Monday.
Though the use of Chinese-made missiles insinuates sales to the Middle East, China has been denying all claims thus far.
Neither the Chinese nor the Saudi Arabian government has made an official comment.
Saudi Arabia has reached out to its international allies for further military support, which has been met with reluctance.
According to AP, the Saudi government has asked France, Britain, Pakistan, and Egypt for air-defense support.
This came after the U.S., Saudi's main ally, has been struggling with its own supply issues due to the continued war with Iran.
Saudi Arabia's allies remain firm in offering diplomatic support, yet stop short of military involvement.
Trump previously rejected a Saudi request to launch direct U.S. strikes on the Houthis during a phone call with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
European allies seem to have adopted a similar stance as well.
The British Prime Minister's office said the UK has a close defense partnership with Saudi Arabia, but declined to comment on any request for military support or the presence of British troops there.
