The Death Of The Cybertruck! Tesla Is ENDING Texas Production
The Tesla Cybertruck was supposed to completely reinvent the pickup market. Instead, Elon Musk has announced what he calls the “end of an era” as Tesla prepares to wind down production at the only factory currently known to build it.
Tesla plans to end Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory in Texas around the middle of 2027 and convert that manufacturing capacity to produce more Cybercabs. Musk says the autonomous two-seat vehicle has become the company’s higher priority as Tesla shifts increasingly toward robotaxis and artificial intelligence.
The sales numbers explain why. Tesla sold approximately 20,237 Cybertrucks in the United States during 2025, a collapse of roughly 48% from the previous year. Sales reportedly fell another 28% during the first nine months of 2026.
That is a brutal result for a vehicle Musk once predicted could eventually sell 250,000 units every year.
The Cybertruck arrived years late and became one of the most polarizing vehicles ever released. Its futuristic stainless-steel design attracted enormous attention, but its price, range and niche styling prevented that attention from becoming the mass-market revolution Tesla originally promised.
Production has not stopped yet, and Musk did not explicitly rule out building the Cybertruck somewhere else in the future. But Texas is currently its only known production home, and Tesla is preparing to replace that line with the Cybercab.
We break down the disastrous sales decline, Musk’s original promises, Tesla’s robotaxi pivot and how one of the most famous vehicles on the planet became a product the company is preparing to leave behind.
