〈백남준생일굿〉은 7월 20일 오후 1시 백남준아트센터에서의 본굿에 앞서, 오전 10시 30분경 국립현대미술관 과천관에서 시작되었다. 방지원과 굿패들은 백남준의 혼을 모신 브라운관 TV와 함께 버스를 타고 과천으로 향했다.
그들이 모시고 간 브라운관 TV는 6월 1일 사전 의례-퍼포먼스 〈죽음을 모르고 어떻게 삶을 아느냐〉에서 백남준의 혼을 모신 뒤 49일간 의례의 시간을 이어온 매개이다. 백남준의 부재하는 신체를 대신하는 TV를 들고 과천으로 향하는 이동 자체가 하나의 굿거리가 된다. 백남준과 함께 소풍을 떠나듯 버스를 타고 그의 작품을 찾아가고, 다시 백남준아트센터로 돌아오는 여정은 서로 떨어진 장소와 시간을 연결한다.

Nam June Paik Birthday Gut began at around 10:30 a.m. on July 20 at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Gwacheon, prior to the main gut ritual at the Nam June Paik Art Center at 1:00 p.m. Bang Ji Won and the Gut Ensemble traveled by bus to Gwacheon, carrying with them a CRT television in which Paik’s spirit had been enshrined.
The CRT television had served as a ritual medium for 49 days, after Paik’s spirit was invited to reside within it during the preliminary ritual-performance How Could We Know Life Without Knowing Death? on June 1. Standing in for Paik’s absent body, the television turned the journey to Gwacheon itself into a passage of the gut ritual. Like setting out on an excursion with Paik, the ensemble traveled by bus to visit his work and then returned with him to the Nam June Paik Art Center. The journey thus connected places and times otherwise separated.
