In this reversed world, almost everyone has Down syndrome.
Erik does not.
That makes him the person society considers “different.”
As a child, Erik can easily do things other children struggle with, like tying shoelaces.
But instead of being appreciated, his ability slowly becomes an obligation.
Everyone expects him to do it for them.
Growing up in a world that was never designed for people like him, Erik eventually begins to believe that he is the problem and even considers changing himself to fit in.
Only after meeting Floor does he begin to understand:
Being part of a minority does not mean something is wrong with you.
The film raises a simple but powerful question:
Who actually decides what counts as “normal”?
A trait can look like a disability, an advantage, or simply a difference depending on how society is built around it.
