How to protect your dog from Harmful Algal Blooms

In the warm months of spring, summer, and fall, Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) are a common and dangerous occurrence on lakes, ponds, and even backyard bird feeders. Water-loving dogs are particularly susceptible to the harms of HABs, but we can protect our pets — and enjoy the water with them — by following some key best practices, according to Dr. Aly Cohen, extension veterinarian at Cornell University's Riney Canine Health Center.
