Europe's China dilemma: Can trade barriers fix what ails its industry?

Europe is sounding the alarm over its economic relationship with China. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has warned of a "second China shock," pointing to a widening trade deficit and growing pressure on European industry. Is Europe facing unfair competition, or deeper economic weakness of its own? Can trade barriers shield local industries without driving a cost? And what would a more balanced China-EU economic relationship look like?

Guests in this episode of Dialogue are Zhou Mi, senior research fellow of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation; Carl Fey, professor of Strategy at BI Norwegian Business School and visiting scholar at Harvard University; and Hans-Peter Burghof, chair of the Banking and Finance Department at University of Hohenheim in Germany.
