엄마를 잃은 아기 코끼리, 죽을 수도 있다고 했다. 🐘💔

아기 코끼리는 2~3년 동안 엄마 젖을 먹고, 커서도 엄마와 함께 살며 생존법을 배운다고 했다.

그런데 엄마를 잃으면 혼자 살아남기 어려울 수도 있다고 했다.

여기는 스리랑카 우다왈라웨 코끼리 트랜짓 홈이었다. 엄마 잃은 아기 코끼리들을 돌보다가 야생으로 돌려보내는 곳이었다.

우유 먹는 시간이 되자 관광객들이 몰려들었다.

우유를 먹으려고 쫄랑쫄랑 달려오는 모습이 정말 귀여웠다.

그런데 우유를 다 먹고도 더 달라는 아기들이 있었다.

사육사는 이제 비키라며 회초리로 재촉했다.

단체생활의 규칙은 이해했지만, 엄마였다면 배부를 때까지 더 주지 않았을까 하는 생각이 들었다.

아기에게 엄마는 세상의 전부일 테니까.

엄마가 되고 나니 세상 모든 아기가 얼마나 소중한 존재인지 조금은 알 것 같았다.

오늘은 우리 아인이를 한 번 더 꼭 안아줘야겠다.

Baby elephants drink their mother’s milk for 2–3 years. Even as adults, they stay with their mothers and learn how to survive.

But without their mothers, surviving alone can be difficult.

This was the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home in Sri Lanka, a place that cares for orphaned baby elephants before releasing them back into the wild.

When feeding time came, tourists gathered everywhere.

The babies came running for milk. They were so adorable!

But some still wanted more, even after finishing their bottles.

The keeper urged them to move away with a stick.

I understood that there were rules to follow, but I couldn’t help wondering…

Would a mother have let her baby drink until it was full?
