Household WiFi often suffers from stuttering and signal dead‑zones. Even gigabit broadband and Mesh systems cannot fully fix these issues. The root cause lies in traditional routers’ radio‑wave broadcasting architecture, which suffers from wall‑caused attenuation, neighbour frequency interference and security vulnerabilities. Chinese R&D teams have developed optical wireless technology. Instead of radio waves, it uses infrared beams paired with centimetre‑level tracking sensors. Light beams follow moving devices to deliver high‑speed, low‑latency connections free from external interference. Nevertheless, limited by the physics of light propagation, challenges such as signal loss from obstructions, complex installation and required external receivers remain. It is still at the prototype‑verification stage. Beyond home usage, this technology fits offices, hospitals and disaster‑relief sites. It also involves global industrial competition, representing a brand‑new communication track breaking away from existing patent frameworks.
