Rocket launches turn south China's Wenchang into space-themed tourism hub

Wenchang in southern China is home to the country's first commercial space launch site, and this summer it' s drawing record crowds as it turns its frequent rocket liftoffs into a booming space‑themed tourist hub.

Official figures show Wenchang welcomed over 5.3 million tourists in the first half of 2026 – close to ten percent more than last year.

The launch of the Long March‑10B reuseable rocket last February drew more than 70,000 spectators.
