호주를 대표하는 퍼포먼스 예술가, 스텔락이 광주미디어아트플랫폼(G.MAP)에서 개최하는 유네스코 포럼에서 최근 작품을 선보인다.
스텔락은 50여 년이 넘는 작업 활동 기간 제3의 손과 확장된 팔, 그리고 6족 보행 로봇과 함께 신체를 보강하는 대안적인 해부학적 구조를 연구해왔다.
스텔락은 인간과 자연 세계 사이 경계에서 질문을 던진다. 그의 퍼포먼스는 생태 위기와 기후 변화의 시대에서 급진적 기술의 전환을 통한 실존적 존재와 존재론적 정체로써 신체에 의문을 제시한다.
이번 퍼포먼스에서 스텔락은 3D 프린트된 헤드셋과 맞춤으로 설계된 전자 기기들을 사용하여 호흡, 근육 및 심장박동 신호들을 청각적으로 증폭시킨다. 그리고 자기 신체를 비디오 변환기와 믹서가 되도록 하여, 실시간 퍼포먼스를 진행한다.
이 센서 시스템은 2023년 봄부터 KMD 랩에서 공학자들과 연구자들에 의해 개발되었다. 멜버른의 JOLT Arts에서 개발한 센서 팔찌들은 생체 데이터 소리를 증대시킨다. 실시간 인터랙티브 퍼포먼스는 소리와 이미지, 그리고 움직임의 동시성을 생성한다.
그리고 신체는 기계적으로 구동되는 시스템으로 확장된다. 이를 통해 무엇이 신체인지, 신체가 어떻게 작동하는지 상상하고 재발견하여 현재 인간이 된다는 것의 의미를 찾는 질문을 던진다.

- 스텔락 소개
스텔락은 일본에서 19년째 거주 중인 호주출신 퍼포먼스 작가다. 그의 퍼포먼스는 대체된 해부학적 구조, 실존에 대한 의문, 주체성, 정체성, 그리고 포스트 휴먼을 탐구한다. 그의 작업에는 인공 보철기관, 로봇 공학, 의학적 영상, 생명 공학 등이 표현된다.

Stelarc, one of Australia's leading performance artists, will present his recent performance at UNESCO Forum taking place in G.MAP, Gwnagju, South Korea.
In a career spanning over 50 years, Stelac has been interrogating alternative anatomical architectures, augmenting the body with a Third Hand, an Extended Art and 6-legged walking robots.
He has an Extra Ear, surgically constructed on his arm.
Stelar interrogates the boundary between the human and the natural world. His performance art problematises the body, its existential presence and ontological status through radical technological transfromation in an age of ecological crisis and climate change.
In this performance he will be incorporating a 3D printed headset and custom enginerred electronics to acoustically amplify breath, muscle and heartbeat signals and also allow his body to become the video switcher and mixer live duting the performance. These sensor systems have been developed by engineers and researchers at KDM lab since the Spring of 2023. Sensor Bracelets developed at JOLT Arts in Melbourne, will augment the bio-data sounds. The live, interactive performance generates a synchronicity of sound, image and movement, the body becoming an extended operational system, reimagining and reconfiguring what a body is, how a body performs and probing what it now means to be human.

Stelarc is an Australian performance artist, who has lived in Japan for 19 years.
His projects and performances explore alternate anatomical architectures, interrogating issues of embodiment, agency, identity and the post-human.
Stelarc's works incorporate Prosthetics, Robotics, Medical Imaging and Biotechnology.
