From mountain roots to Shanghai auto expert: Meet WorldSkills Champion Zhu Junfeng

Zhu Junfeng, a 24-year-old native from the mountains of Zunyi, Guizhou, has turned a high school entrance exam setback into an inspiring story of vocational excellence. After joining Shanghai Yangpu Vocational School in 2018, he secured a spot on the auto body repair training team within just six months. At the 47th WorldSkills Competition in Lyon, France, Zhu won gold in Auto Body Repair—securing China’s third consecutive title in the event—by mastering repairs within a ultra-precise maximum error margin of just 0.5 millimeters.

After standing atop the global podium, Zhu chose to plant roots in Shanghai as a maintenance technology development engineer at SAIC Volkswagen. Transitioning from hands-on repair to developing technical standards and mentoring young technicians, he applies the same relentless attention to detail forged during his six years of training to advance industry benchmarks and support future automotive talent.
