시 「샤이르 프라후(شئير ڤراهو, 배의 시)」, 함자 판수리, 16–17세기
말레이어 운문 형식인 샤이르의 초기 발전에 기여한 작품으로, 이슬람 신비주의 전통과 아랍·페르시아 시 전통이 말레이 문학 안에서 융합된 사례로 평가된다. 시는 배를 인간의 삶에 비유한다. 세속이라는 바다를 항해하는 인간이 올바른 길과 영적 깨달음을 찾아가는 여정을 노래하며, 파도와 폭풍, 돛과 키는 삶의 시련과 수행의 여정을 상징한다.

곡 〈배의 송가〉, 디온 나타라자
작곡가는 판수리가 그려낸 배, 바다, 파도, 거센 바람의 이미지를 환기하며, 자신의 작곡 재료에서 이에 상응하는 요소를 발견하면서 작업을 전개하였다. 이 기억의 바다는 판수리 시의 마지막 연에서 음악적 절정에 이르며, 금속 타악기인 겐데르를 단단한 타봉(打棒)으로 두드리는 강렬한 소리와 함께 막을 내린다.

POEM ”𝘚𝘺𝘢𝘪𝘳 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘩𝘶 ((شئير ڤراهو, Boat Poem)“, Hamzah Fansuri, 16th–17th century
The poem is regarded as an important contribution to the early development of the syair, a classical Malay verse form. It exemplifies the fusion of Islamic mysticism with Arabic and Persian poetic traditions in Malay literature. Using a boat as a metaphor for human life, the poem depicts a journey navigating the seas of the worldly realm, in search of both the right path and of spiritual enlightenment. Its waves and storms, its sails and rudder, symbolize the trials of life and the path of spiritual cultivation.

SONG ”𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘰𝘢𝘵 𝘖𝘥𝘦“, Dion Nataraja
Evoking Fansuri’s words—ships, sea, waves, and harsh winds—the composer found an analogue in his compositional materials. This sea of memories reaches its conclusion in Fansuri’s final stanza, which coincides with the musical climax, when the gendèr—a metallophone—is struck with a hard mallet.
