Why Dame NEVER Reacts... 🥶🏀

Damian Lillard is one of the COLDEST closers in NBA history, but the mentality behind his legendary Dame Time moments started long before he became an NBA superstar! When asked what makes him such an incredible closer, Lillard revealed an unforgettable story about his father, Houston Lillard Sr., dating all the way back to his days playing basketball at Oakland High School. With just 15 seconds remaining and his team trailing by three points, a young Damian Lillard knocked down a clutch three-pointer to tie the game and immediately went crazy celebrating. But when he looked into the stands at his dad, there was absolutely no reaction. No cheering, no excitement, just complete composure. That moment stayed with Dame and helped shape the ice-cold, fearless mentality that would eventually make him one of the most dangerous clutch shooters and greatest closers in basketball history. From his legendary 2014 NBA Playoffs buzzer-beater against James Harden, Dwight Howard, and the Houston Rockets to his unforgettable 37-foot series-winning three-pointer over Paul George and the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2019 NBA Playoffs, Damian Lillard has delivered some of the most iconic game-winning shots the NBA has ever seen. His famous Dame Time celebration, tapping his wrist to let everyone know what time it is, became one of the most recognizable celebrations in basketball, while his legendary wave goodbye to OKC cemented his reputation as one of the coldest players of all time. Whether it's impossible logo threes, deep-range shooting, fourth-quarter takeovers, buzzer-beaters, or unbelievable playoff performances, Dame has always embraced the biggest moments instead of running from them. From growing up in Oakland, California, to becoming a star at Weber State, winning NBA Rookie of the Year with the Portland Trail Blazers, earning multiple NBA All-Star and All-NBA selections, making the NBA 75th Anniversary Team, and scoring a career-high 71 points against the Houston Rockets, Damian Lillard has built one of the most memorable careers of his generation. After his time alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks and suffering a devastating Achilles injury during the 2025 NBA Playoffs, Lillard returned to the Portland Trail Blazers organization to continue his NBA journey. But behind every unforgettable Dame Time moment is the same mentality his father demonstrated years ago: staying calm, trusting your preparation, and expecting yourself to deliver when everything is on the line.
