China's largest single automated shipping terminal moves closer to opening as equipment tests begin

China has delivered all heavy machinery for Phase I of the Xiaoyangshan North West Section, which is set to become the nation's largest single automated shipping terminal. Engineers are now running integration tests to sync the port's giant robotic cranes with self-driving cargo vehicles.
 
The megaport is being built in three overlapping phases, with the newly completed part passing government inspections and featuring major tech upgrades over older terminals.
 
Opening at the end of this year, the port’s first phase will feature 22 berths for large cargo ships, boosting annual capacity by 1.5 million containers.
