But right before the cameras rolled, Nicholson pulled Damon aside and whispered that the scene felt too predictable, declaring he wanted to add "a little bit of sinister" to it. Without telling Damon what he was going to do, Nicholson suddenly pulled out a real gun mid-take, pointing it directly at Damon's face to get an authentic, terrified reaction out of him.
