Volvo's new Slovak EV plant signals broader Chinese investment push in Europe

Chinese automakers are stepping up investment in Kosice, in eastern Slovakia.
Volvo, majority-owned by China’s Geely, is bringing capital and electric-vehicle production capacity to Kosice, with plans to build an EV factory designed to produce up to 250,000 cars a year.
The new plant is expected to create about 3,300 direct jobs.
Volvo is a Swedish premium automaker founded in 1927 in Gothenburg. Originally part of Sweden’s Volvo Group, it was acquired by Ford in 1999 and then by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding in 2010. The company remains majority-owned by Geely and is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.
