Bologna targets smart city and climate goals through human-centric AI and closer Europe-China co-op

Prof. Raffaele Laudani, Deputy Mayor of City of Bologna, Italy, talked to ShanghaiEye, at Tomorrow City·Shanghai. Laudani was deeply impressed by physical AI, which he believes can help cities and industries become more competitive. He introduced Bologna’s “civic digital twin” project, which goes beyond traditional smart city models by putting citizens at the center and using technology to improve people’s lives.

He praised Shenzhen’s digital twin development and said future smart cities should better understand people’s needs, especially vulnerable groups. He praised China’s green technology progress, especially BYD’s battery innovation, and called for more cooperation instead of competition.

He also hopes Bologna and Shanghai can cooperate more, saying cities around the world face similar challenges and need to work together.
