The Phantom of the Opera, one of the world’s most iconic musical productions, officially opens at the Shanghai Grand Theatre today.
The run is a 104-performance farewell season. It marks the show’s 40th anniversary.
It also sets a new record for the longest single-city run of an original musical in Chinese mainland.
Returning to Shanghai after two decades, legendary composer and creator Andrew Lloyd Webber sat down for an exclusive conversation with ShanghaiEye.
Reflecting on his return, Webber expressed absolute thrill at witnessing the city’s breathtaking evolution, boundless economic and cultural vitality, and the unbridled passion of local theatergoers.
