Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Friday that any deployment of European troops to Ukraine would amount to war with Russia, speaking to Russian media following bilateral meetings ahead of the BRICS summit in New Delhi.
Putin also emphasized that Russia does not pose a threat to Europe, accusing “European elites” of frightening their populations with what he called an “imaginary threat from Russia.”
Speaking at the BRICS Business Forum, Putin said BRICS accounted for over 40% of global GDP in the past five years, while the G7 contributed only 29%.
He added that Russia faced more than 30,000 sanctions — almost twice as many as all other countries combined.
Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday to participate in the 18th BRICS summit.
The Russian leader held separate talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is hosting this BRICS summit.
