Kayla Moved Into the Scavo House… But Blamed Lynette for Her Mother’s Death

In Desperate Housewives Season 3 Episode 11, Kayla officially moves into the Scavo home after Nora’s death. Lynette wants to keep the promise she made and take care of Kayla like she is part of the family.

She asks the kids to welcome her, even preparing gifts to make her feel included. Lynette also gives Kayla one of her own childhood dolls, hoping it will help her feel accepted.

But Kayla stays cold.

Later, she damages the doll, stuffs it into chili, and throws it away. Lynette is hurt, but she also knows Kayla has just lost her mother, so she is afraid to come down too hard.

Then Kayla starts testing every rule in the house.

At dinner, she demands to eat while watching TV because Nora used to allow it. Lynette wants to hold the Scavo family line, but she also does not want to seem cruel, so she gives in once. Of course, the other kids immediately notice the unfairness.

Later, when Lynette takes the kids out for ice cream, Kayla refuses to leave when it is time to go. She tells Lynette she does not have to listen because Lynette is not her mother.

So Lynette handles it in the most Scavo way possible: she has her boys drag Kayla into the car, and in exchange, they get to watch TV during dinner for a week.

That night, Tom tries to comfort Kayla and asks why she is treating Lynette this way. Kayla finally says what she really believes: Nora died because of Lynette. In her mind, if Lynette had not tried to “steal” her, Nora never would have gone to that supermarket.

Tom tries to explain that Lynette truly wants to care for her.

But Kayla says something even colder: she will never love Lynette, and Tom cannot make her.

Lynette hears it from outside the room, and the pain hits hard.
