What if - at the end of your life - you discovered you had spent decades looking at your phone? In this personal and thought-provoking talk, a teenager who has chosen not to own a smartphone explores how social media algorithms are designed to capture our attention and shape our habits. While recognising the benefits of technology, Seren argues that constant digital consumption can come at the expense of creativity, hobbies and real-world relationships. Seren, an academic and drama scholar, has a particular passion for drama, maths, and science and enjoys debating, engineering and creative problem-solving. Outside the classroom, she is an enthusiastic swimmer and lacrosse player who loves reading - especially crime fiction and classic literature. Her other interests include watercolour painting, baking and piano. Through her talk, Seren hopes to encourage others to think differently about technology, creativity and the choices we make in everyday life.
