How do mechanics squeeze massive engine pistons into tight cylinders?! 🚀⚙️
When rebuilding a high-performance engine, mechanics must install large aluminum pistons directly into the microscopic bore of the cylinder block! However, every piston is wrapped in thin, expandable steel piston rings designed to scrape oil and hold back explosive combustion pressure. If you try to force a piston in without compressing these rings, they will instantly shatter!
In this incredibly satisfying engine building video, the mechanic heavily lubricates the side of each piston with thick yellow oil! To bypass the extreme spring tension, they wrap a specialized ratcheting steel clamp around the piston to physically force the rings inward. Once the rings are fully compressed, they use the wooden handle of a hammer to carefully tap the entire massive assembly down into the cylinder block, ensuring a mathematically perfect fit without causing catastrophic damage to the engine!
