#NTUsg researchers have developed a colour-changing polymer sensor that makes structural stress visible to the naked eye. As stress increases, the material changes colour, helping engineers see where stress is concentrated and how severely it is developing.
The technology could offer a simpler way to monitor bridges, buildings and other infrastructure, while reducing reliance on extensive networks of sensors, wiring and batteries.
