What better way to begin university than with a night run?
On September 11, more than 4,000 freshmen in Peking University's 2026 cohort gathered at the May Fourth Sports Field for PKU's "First Run" of the academic year.
Joining the students were PKU Council Chair He Guangcai 何光彩, PKU President Gao Song 高松, university leaders, faculty members, and special guests including Chinese Academy of Sciences Academicians Liu Ruochuan 刘若川, Dean of PKU's School of Mathematical Sciences, and Ma Ding 马丁, Professor at PKU's College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering, as well as Olympic champions Dong Dong 董栋 and Sun Yujie 孙玉洁, the latter also a faculty member of PKU's Department of PE.
The guests shared their words of encouragement, inspiring the new students to stay active, build resilience, and embrace university life with determination.
