China's robot skin industry aims for mass production

China's robot skin sector is moving toward mass production, as heavy demand from the humanoid robot industry accelerates orders and ramps up application scenarios.

So-called "robot skin" can describe both robot clothing, that includes soft textiles that conduct heat, prevent static, and buffer collisions, but it can also refer to silicon-like material that mimics human skin.

One textile equipment maker in Jiangsu Province, received 13,000 orders for robot clothes in June alone.

Firms that make flexible sensing-skins are also speeding up mass production.

One firm in Suzhou produces flexible thin-film pressure sensors that let robots control their force and grip strength.

Industry experts say the sector is at a critical turning point, moving from small lab-based production to standardized mass production.
