The South Korean government is freezing price ceilings for fuel products for another four weeks from Saturday, citing domestic household cost pressures and the recent strengthening of the Korean Won compared to the USD.
Under the extension, fuel price caps remain at 1,784 won per liter for gasoline, and 1,773 won for diesel.
The Industry Ministry said Friday that Middle East tensions have pushed major crude benchmarks above 100 dollars a barrel, but a stronger won has helped cushion the impact on domestic fuel costs.
The decision keeps September’s oil price cap unchanged since a 150-won-per-liter cut began in late June.
The government will closely monitor global oil prices and domestic fuel consumption to carefully manage fuel price caps and ease the burden on households.
