전시 제목인 ‘감각 환경’은 프랑스 철학자 자크 랑시에르(Jacques Rancière, 1940-)의 개념에서 출발합니다. 랑시에르는 예술에서의 매체를 단순히 예술 제작의 도구가 아닌, 우리의 감각과 인식을 새롭게 구성하는 ‘감각 환경’으로 보았습니다. 이번 전시는 이 개념을 확장하여 다양한 기술 매체와 융합한 예술 작품을 통해 기술과 자연, 인간과 비인간의 관계를 다시 바라보며 감각의 위계를 재구성하는 하나의 환경을 펼쳐 보입니다.

전시에 참여한 8명의 작가(팀)는 예술과 기술의 상호작용 속에서 다양한 실험을 이어가고 있습니다. 이들은 미세입자, 지진파, 데이터, 소외된 존재 등 우리가 인식하지 못하거나 배제되어 온 존재들을 작품 속에 드러냅니다. 이를 통해 전시는 모든 존재가 동등하게 감각되고 표현될 수 있는 환경을 모색하며, 감각과 인식의 경계를 확장하는 사유의 장을 마련하고자 합니다.

“Sensory Milieu.“ The exhibition takes its title from a concept developed by French philosopher Jacques Rancière (b. 1940), who understood media in art not simply as tools of artistic production, but as a “sensory milieu”—an environment that reshapes how we perceive and experience the world. Drawing on this idea, the exhibition explores the relationships between technology and nature, humans and non-humans, creating a space that reimagines the hierarchy of the senses.

The eight artists (or teams) featured in this exhibition view technology as a subject on equal footing with humans, engaging in diverse experiments at the intersection of art and technology. Their works bring to the fore entities that have long remained unseen or excluded—from fine particles, seismic waves, data, and marginalized beings. With these approaches, the exhibition seeks to envision an environment in which all beings can be equally perceived and expressed, creating a multilayered space for thought that expands the boundaries of perception and awareness.
