Inside NIO’s Hefei EV Factory: the sci-fi future of flexible assembly

Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO has just sold a percentage of its battery and charging network to another Chinese EV maker, Geely, in a bid to expand both brands' charging infrastructure.

Each company is a top EV maker in the county and both are known for their highly advanced vehicle production lines.

At NIO's Second Advanced Manufacturing Base in east China's Anhui Province, vehicles with entirely different models and designs are put together on the same assembly platform.

The plant is also known for its supply chain efficiency thanks to systems like this: long conveyor belts that connect vehicle assembly workshops to component suppliers.

According to a statement from NIO, Geely will purchase 30 percent of NIO Power, the firm’s battery-swapping and charging unit.
