What if you don’t have to be “naturally gifted” to belong in STEM? Data scientist Chen Siwen shares her journey of confronting gender stereotypes, self-doubt, and the pressure to be perfect. From struggling with computer science to pursuing advanced training and building a career in data science, she learned that talent is not simply something we are born with—it can grow through curiosity, persistence, and the courage to keep exploring. She introduces her personal TIE framework: Talent, Integrity, and Empowerment, and argues that our potential becomes even more powerful when we use it to empower others. Her message is simple: you do not need to be perfect, extraordinary, or fearless to begin. You only need to be willing to try, fail, learn, and start again. Chen Siwen is a data scientist passionate about the intersection of data, technology, and business. Her academic and professional journey has taken her across multiple fields, including computer science, while challenging her own assumptions about talent, intelligence, and who belongs in STEM.
