A baby’s cry is more than just a sound—it is a form of communication. But what if technology could learn to understand what that cry is trying to tell us?
In “How AI Identifies a Baby’s Cry,” Senthil explores how Artificial Intelligence can analyse the unique patterns hidden within a baby’s cry and help identify different needs or emotional states. Drawing from his passion for technology, open-source innovation, and building solutions for underserved communities, he looks at how AI can transform something as simple and human as a baby’s cry into meaningful insights.
This talk offers a fascinating glimpse into how technology can learn to listen, understand, and ultimately help us care better. Driven by a vision of creating technology-enabled, self-sustaining communities, Senthil believes that true innovation must bridge the digital divide and empower underserved populations. This vision led him to establish MetooMentor, a non-profit initiative dedicated to mentoring girls and young women in technology and innovation. What began as a small volunteer-driven effort has grown into one of Tamil Nadu's largest in-person technology meetup communities, positively impacting more than 1,000 young women.
Today, Senthil actively contributes to the open-source ecosystem, continuing his mission to build technologies and communities that create inclusive, sustainable, and meaningful change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
