How Germany's healthcare system relies on skilled workers from abroad | DW Documentary

Germany is training more doctors than ever before – but the shortfall in hospitals still runs to thousands. The reason for this lies less in the absolute figures and more in deeper structural challenges within the healthcare system.

Doctors from abroad are being recruited to help close this gap. But before they can practise in Germany, they must go through a rigorous licensing process, including a language test.

While international recruitment helps ease shortages in the short term, it is not a long-term solution. Ongoing structural challenges continue to put growing pressure on Germany's healthcare system.
