Shanghai launches first public full-temperature bonded food processing warehouse near Lin-gang

Shanghai’s Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone has officially launched the city’s first public, full-temperature zone bonded food processing warehouse. Spanning 5,000 square meters, the facility covers room temperature, chilled, frozen, and constant-temperature zones alongside a 100,000-level GMP air-purification workshop. By allowing international food products—such as Italian chocolate—to undergo value-added processing, labeling, and packaging directly under bonded status, companies can streamline customs procedures, cut supply chain costs, and re-export goods efficiently. Multinational brands, including Italy's Venchi, have already adopted this integrated "bonded storage + processing" model, transforming Shanghai into a strategic distribution center for China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

This functional upgrade reflects Shanghai’s growing role as China’s largest import gateway for agricultural products and pre-packaged foods. Supported by direct maritime shipping lines at Yangshan Port and expedited customs measures like "green channels" and one-hour clearance, high-value fresh produce—such as Peru's first tariff-free banana shipments—moves seamlessly from port to market. From January to July, Shanghai ports imported 191.47 billion yuan worth of agricultural products, accounting for over 20 percent of the national total. As bonded processing expands and port clearance speeds up, Shanghai continues to reinforce its position as a central hub in the global food supply chain.
