Republican strategist John Jordan says “a lot more people are going to be unemployed” in Iran with traders now exchanging 2.5 million rials to the US dollar.
Mr Jordan believes Iran will have less power to import raw materials and parts due to the weak currency.
“You’re going to see a lot of factories shuttered, and the unemployment ranks, which are already very large, being swelled further” he told News 24.
“That is going to be massively destabilising.”
