MI5 sends out stark warning to UK universities over Chinese ‘front company’

News24 contributor Kosha Gada says there must be “tighter controls” on where university funding is coming from to stop front companies infiltrating foreign nations.

“The world that we live in, with immigration and so many people from all over the place with different allegiances, you don’t know who they are, you don’t know really what their root ideology is,” Ms Gada said.

“They could be students; they could be funders such as this front company that creates an incentive for researchers and academics to use them.

“Government frameworks need to catch up, but the answer will never be from government as well; I think the universities themselves, professors, all of that, there has to be tighter controls in terms of where you're taking funding from.”
