While working on this piece, a passage from
Demian by Hermann Hesse came to mind:

“A person may avoid what is forbidden and still be evil.
And the opposite can also be true.”

We often divide the world into heroes and villains
to protect ourselves with clear boundaries.

But sometimes the real question is not
who broke the rule,
but who decided what the rule was.

In chess, the game often seems to revolve around the king.
But the most powerful piece on the board is the queen.

Sometimes the real player is hidden in plain sight.

And only at the very end do we realize:

Checkmate.
The queen was the villain all along.
