How do mechanics remove engine parts that are completely welded in place by carbon?! 🚜⚙️
Inside a modern diesel engine, fuel injectors sit directly inside the combustion chamber, exposed to extreme heat and pressure. Over time, soot and carbon buildup can pack into the tight clearance between the long metal injector and the engine's cylinder head, practically cementing the two pieces together in a process known in the automotive world as "carbon lock."
To extract these stubborn parts without shattering the delicate engine block with a pry bar, mechanics rely on a slide hammer. By threading a steel rod directly onto the injector and violently sliding a heavy iron weight upward against a stop nut, they generate massive bursts of perfectly vertical kinetic energy. This rhythmic shockwave safely shatters the carbon bond, pulling the seized injector out millimeter by millimeter!
